Carpet Burns is Tom Hingley’s account of his life as lead singer of Inspiral Carpets, one of the big three bands of the Manchester movement who, along with The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays, changed music for a generation. Tom’s own words provide an account of what it felt like to be in the eye of a pop hurricane and what happens when the hits end and the arguments kick in.
‘A must for all Inspirals fans and devotees to popular culture of the time. (Want to know where Noel Gallagher first cut his teeth?) The book could also act as a how-to or how-not-to guide for surviving the music industry, a business not famed for providing soft landings or aftercare.’ – Eartwister
‘A cool as f**k memoir… a first-hand account of a fascinating era in British pop, conveyed with atmosphere and colour.’ – Record Collector
‘Entertaining and refreshingly frank.’ – The Big Issue
‘Oh my God! Every band is the same. I couldn’t put it down.’ – Peter Hook

Very honest and no slagging off former band mates or managers etc even though some of the people mentioned in the book really suck and it made me almost cry that the lot departed in such a stupid way at the end. It's an easy read and I loved every page of it. Highly recommendable if you were in to the Madchester move and listened to all these bands from "back-in-the-days". Packed also with a couple of little and funny stories from one or the other band member of the Happy Mondays, Elvis Costello (yes, Elvis Costello), The Charlatans and Dave Gahan from Depeche Mode, ...Product details

Carpet Burns Life with Inspiral Carpets eBook Tom Hingley Reviews
I got the book a couple of weeks ago, finally started reading it yesterday (been busy) and I've pretty much finished it! Really great book, I have tried to keep off music biographies as they're so addictive, but I would put this up there with Dear Boy, the biography of Keith Moon in terms of being a solid enjoyable music book. Tom comes across very well in it which I was especially pleased with. If you've ever read Donovan's effort, well he didn't come across well at all I don't think.
Once finished I fully intend to start it over again, another indicator of a great book.
P.S. I was unaware that it was you guys who did the tune for 815 from Manchester, I remember it vividly!
P.P.S. The altercation with Shaun Ryder was funny, as I had read his biography just last October
